Only a select few properties in Huron, SD, are going to be eligible for keeping chickens:
- Chicken Keeping: Chicken keeping, including roosters, is not allowed within the city limits of Huron, South Dakota.
- Roosters are also not allowed.
- Zoned R-0 Areas: In areas zoned R-0 consisting of at least five (5) acres or more, residents are allowed to keep chickens for hobby or recreational purposes or to supplement their household food supply.
- Poultry Slaughtering: Poultry slaughtering is permitted for conditional purposes. To slaughter chickens, you must obtain a permit from the local municipality.
- Chicken Coop Guidelines: If you live in an area zoned R-0 and want to keep chickens, you must adhere to the chicken coop guidelines established by the local municipality.
