  • Number of Chickens: There is no limit on the number of chickens that can be kept in Germantown.  
  • Roosters: Roosters are not allowed in Germantown, Maryland.
  • Chicken Coop Requirements 
    • Chicken coops must be located in the rear yard, at least 25 feet from any lot line and 100 feet from any dwelling on another lot.
    • The chicken coop must be kept in good repair and must be cleaned regularly. 
    • The coop must have a secure run so that the chickens can exercise.
    • The coop must also be predator-proof.
  • Waste Disposal: Chicken manure is a valuable fertilizer. However, it is important to dispose of chicken manure properly. Chicken manure should not be composted with food scraps, and it should not be applied to gardens where food is grown.
