  • Number of chickens: Chickens aren’t allowed at all in Mitchell’s residential zones but may be allowed in agriculturally zoned properties near the edge of town. Please contact the local authorities for more information regarding the allowed number of chickens. 
  • Roosters: Roosters are likely not allowed within the city because of their noise.
  • Distance from Dwellings: No person shall keep enclosed or housed any domestic fowl within the distance of one hundred feet (100′) of any occupied dwelling or building or within any residential area of the city.
  • Cleanliness and Sanitation: Chicken coops and enclosures must be kept clean and sanitary.
  • Restriction on Free-Ranging: No person shall allow any ducks, geese, chickens, or other domestic fowl to run at large.
  • Poultry Waste Management: Poultry waste shall be removed and disposed of at the expense of the persons controlling the same, in the manner and by the method directed by the proper City official.
