Unfortunately, Kettering doesn’t allow residents to keep chickens in their backyards. Learn more below:

  • Raising and keeping chickens is not permitted in the City of Kettering
  • This includes roosters, hens, and chicks. Unfortunately, residents are not allowed to maintain chickens within the city limits.
  • No person shall permit any fowl to run at large upon any public way or the land of another. 
  • No person shall dye or otherwise color any fowl or animals. The city strictly prohibits the dyeing or coloring of any fowl or animal, including chickens. This regulation is in place to promote these animals’ welfare and natural appearance. Therefore, it is not permissible to dye your chickens’ feathers or provide them with colored food.
