- Permitted Chickens: The city of South Jordan, Utah, allows residents to raise chickens in residentially zoned areas for family food production.
- Each residential lot can keep up to six (6) chickens.
- Rooster Prohibition: It is important to note that the keeping of roosters is expressly prohibited in residential zones. However, if they are part of pullet stock, roosters may be kept temporarily until they reach four (4) months of age.
- Chicken Coop Regulations: Chicken coops, or any portion of a larger accessory structure utilized for raising chickens, must be situated in compliance with specific distance requirements. They should be located at least ten feet (10′) away from the on-site dwelling, at least five feet (5′) from the property line of any adjoining neighbor, and at least forty feet (40′) away from any dwelling on an adjoining property.
- Slaughtering and Processing: For food production purposes, the slaughtering or processing of chickens outdoors is expressly prohibited in residential zones.
